In the 20s of the last century, the sweater ceased to be only sportswear – it was turned into an element of military uniforms for pilots. And after a very short period of time in the same 20s, introduced by Coco Chanel and popularized by Hollywood film actresses, he opens up a completely new direction in everyday style. His first “steps” on the fashion catwalks were stunning, and he simply drove the women of that time crazy. The style of the sweater, its color, length, shape, size and shape of its collar and sleeves – everything now depended only on the imagination of its mistress.
Women’s fashion not only adopted the sweater, but managed to “generate” variations on its theme, including for men: jumpers appeared – sweaters without a collar and with a small fastener at the neck, so that you can easily and easily take them off and put them on; polo jumpers – with a collar (originally it was worn by polo players); pullovers – had a V-shaped neckline (worn by golfers and tennis players); dresses – pullovers.
But a special place among sweaters is occupied by “turtlenecks”. Their name is not so easy to come up with: originally this sweater was intended for divers. The fact is that diving suits rubbed the chin and neck very much, and therefore special clothing was required to protect them. To do this, the usual version of the sweater was somewhat changed: its collar was significantly lengthened; the knitted fabric from which they planned to sew such a “sweater” was taken thinner; removed patterns. The new product was called the “turtleneck” in honor of those to whom it was originally sewn. But the turtleneck was also to the liking of the pilots: its double collar perfectly protected them, first of all, from cold air, since they flew on airplanes in which the cockpits were still designed open. Following the pilots, the turtleneck was used by racing drivers and sailors.
However, the “civilian” turtleneck has become only since the 50s. So Pierre Cardin in 1959 launched his first ready-to-wear collection or “pret-a-porte” on the catwalk. The main emphasis in the presented collection was made on turtlenecks connected with “noodles”. However, such a show did not please the High Fashion Syndicate, which worried Pierre Cardin little, since his turtleneck became very popular. Yves Saint Laurent brought this sweater with a long collar to a special place when he stated that, according to his vision, a business woman should be dressed in a black tight skirt and a black thin turtleneck. As a result, this image has become a classic.
And what place do sweaters occupy now?
Of course, the greatest preference for such warm things as a sweater is given in the cold season – autumn and winter (in the spring you already want something lighter). And modern trends help women to be elegant and beautiful at this time.
Free-cut sweaters will be relevant for the “cold” period of the year. It is believed that just such a cut will visually hide all the flaws of the figure. However, despite such an optimistic conclusion, one should still be careful when choosing loose sweaters, especially if they are with some kind of designer addition. For example, such a free cut will not work for full women.
The new season of this year may “cut off” the sleeves of sweaters. They will be made from light knitted fabric or knitted from light yarn, making them elegant elements of the wardrobe and at the same time practical, leaving behind their main purpose – to warm.
Another of the elegant directions of the sweater this season will be a sweater – “bolero”. Of course, this little thing will not warm in the cold, but it will give the rest of the outfit chic and showiness, and expand the possibilities of combining in the wardrobe. It is believed that the knitted “bolero” is suitable only for slender and tall women of fashion. This is not entirely true. It all depends on the performance of the product itself: large knitting and large decorations on it – for slender and not necessarily tall; a thinner canvas, a clear line of shoulders, without large details – such a “bolero” will fit well on plump fashionistas.
The “original” direction next season will be replenished with sweaters – capes. By themselves, capes and capes in the cold season of this year will be at the peak of their popularity. As for such sweaters, one of their serious advantages is the fact that they can warm well, but wearing them under coats, fur coats and jackets will be very inconvenient.
Dresses – sweaters did not go out of fashion and so far they do not go out of it. This is a very stylish variation of a sweater: at the same time a dress and a warm product. Such a model will allow a woman to look feminine and elegant even in winter. But when choosing your version of the dress, you should remember that you will have to take into account height, fullness, the difference between the hip line and the waist. So, for example, full women without hips and waist should not buy a sweater dress; those who have a significant difference between the hip line and the waist need the skirt of the dress to be made without large details, without a belt on the hip line, without transverse knitting, etc.
As for the color scheme, for the next season the most popular will be calm warm shades, such as sand, chocolate, “coffee with milk”, as well as classic white and black that never go out of fashion. “Leopard” drawings, multi-colored stripes, ethnic motifs and abstraction will be relevant.
