History of fashion magazines.

women's shirts, dress shirtsA bit of the history of fashion magazines.

Most girls today do not like to read, and if they do, it is only fashion magazines. And if before a man’s best friend was a man, today it is again a fashion magazine.

Style is eternal, but fashion is a capricious lady, she constantly changes something and is dissatisfied with something. But everyone wants to please her, interest in her is only growing, especially among the beautiful half of humanity.

It is gloss that is the ladder along which fashionable novelties descend from the catwalks into our lives. Paper helps not only to get fresh information about new trends, but also to keep it for centuries. Men can’t understand why glossy pages are so important for girls, and every now and then they laugh at women’s habits of buying and storing a ton of paper with beautiful pictures and “zero useful content”. But it was men who dragged women into the quagmire of fashion magazines. It was men who became the creators of the glossy world, when many years ago they released the first printed publications, which, after more than a dozen years, were transformed into the glossy magazines of our time.

It’s hard to imagine, but before there were professional fashion models, clothes were demonstrated using wax dolls, about a quarter of a person’s height in size. The story begins in a small Parisian shop on Rue Saint-Honoré. New models of clothes were put on the dolls and put on public display.

Ceremonial and weekend clothes were worn on large dolls, home outfits – on small ones.

Then they began to send mannequins to other cities and countries to dictate the latest trends and fashion trends to them. No wonder they say: “beauty will save the world.” There is a legend that when fashion dolls came from one country to another to demonstrate fashionable clothes, even hostilities in these countries ceased. A lot of time has passed since then, but you can see wax models in the Galliera Fashion Museum, which is located in Paris.

And in 1672, all in the same France, the magazine “Gallant Mercury” was born, which five years later became a periodical and was released not anyhow, but every month.

The magazine was designed for the general public, it contained information about the latest literary novelties, talked about social events, and of course about fashion trends, which can now be found in our blog. Being very popular, Mercure galant magazine became the progenitor of fashion magazines, which are already issued for you and me in huge circulation.

Most of the most popular glossy publications are international, but there are also less popular local publications. Perhaps, thanks to the franchise distribution, in a few years they will be distributed not only in nearby cities, but throughout the world, like the famous Elle or Playboy!
